Saudi Arabia bans Eternals movie over same-sex couple in the film
Marvel fans living in the Middle East may not be able to catch the latest Marvel Studios film, The Eternals as its been reported that Saudi Arabia bans Eternals movie over same-sex couple in the film.
According to various sources, The Eternals was scheduled for release in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait on November 11 but has since pulled out from the slate in the area due to requests to Disney falling apart. Sources like Variety and The Hollywood Reporter say that these countries were requesting Disney to make heavy edits to the film which Disney was not willing to comply with.
The scenes in question happen to be the ones involving Brian Tyree Henry who plays Phastos in the film.
You see in the film, when The Eternals actually gather together after centuries apart, Henry’s character has found a husband and is also raising a child together.
The scene in question that these countries wanted to edit out was a scene featuring Henry and his husband Ben (Haaz Sleiman) sharing a passionate kiss.
So far only the United Arab Emirates has maintained the release of the film which was directed by Chloe Zhao and stars Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Kit Harrington, Don Lee, Lauren Ridloff and more.
