DC Comics revamps the Superman motto to fit 21st Century
During a segment at DC Fandome 2021, they played a video announcement featuring DC’s head honcho Jim Lee talking about DC Comics and their recent revamp of the Superman motto!
Old school fans would know the classic “Superman motto” as “Truth, Justice and the American Way”. With all the societal and political changes in the world since Superman was first created by Jerry Seigel and Joe Shuster, DC had to eventually change this motto to make it fit the global community.
I think this is a good move on the publisher’s part especially since they are reaching out to a wide audience who have their own personality and their own beliefs.
Plus it also helps to reinforce DC’s new outlook towards LGBTQ+ characters including Superman’s own son Jonathan Kent who recently came out as bisexual with the issue of his coming out coming in November’s Superman: Son of Kal-El # 5.
