There’s an epilepsy-trigerring scene in Cyberpunk 2077 people need to watch out for
Remember that time Pokemon caused massive numbers of epileptic attacks? Well, there’s a possibility that this could happen with CD PROJEKT RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 which comes out this week for Playstation 4 and PC. Apparently there are reports that there’s an epilepsy-trigerring scene in Cyberpunk 2077!
Game Informer’s Liana Ruppert posted a story that warns fans of the game with a history of epileptic attacks to be careful of certain visuals that could trigger epilepsy while playing. From the trailers and game footage alone, you could see that there’s just waaaaay too much flashing lights which in turn could trigger seizures for people who are photosensitive. Ruppert noted that there are a lot of decorative lights around the game’s multitudes of clubs and bars that affect gamers.
There’s also the braindance mechanic that could trigger fans and players.
Here’s a look at that function in the game via IGN
Oh and there are also glitchy visuals in scenes involving Keanu Reeves aka Johnny Silverhand.
CD Projekt Red took notice of this and vowed to add a seizure warning as well as another one from EULA. They also promised to look at the points that Ruppert mentioned in her PSA, also figuring a way to make a permanent fix. There are talks of a blanket change in the lighting for the game or insert a new mode that fans who suffer from seizures can turn on. Either way, its nice that CD Projekt Red is actually listening and will do something about it in upcoming patches for the game.
In the meantime, it would be better to just avoid looking at the screen in certain times to avoid getting the undesirable effects of the lighting.
Thank you for bringing this up. We’re working on adding a separate warning in the game, aside from the one that exists in the EULA (https://t.co/eXpPn73VSK). Regarding a more permanent solution, Dev team is currently exploring that and will be implementing it as soon as possible. https://t.co/lXFypnSit2
