Top 10 Cool Moments from Marvel’s Empyre
Marvel has just finished their new “event” miniseries Empyre and while my review for the entire series isn’t done yet, we can certainly talk about some of the good stuff from that book. Here are the Top 10 cool moments from Marvel’s Empyre!
Empyre was written by Al Ewing and Dan Slott with art by Valerio Schiti. And before we proceed, we like to summon our SPOILER ALERT for this one because this post has a LOT!
10. Reed Richard’s Iron Man armor
Stark loves to build suits for different storylines and Empyre is no exception. What’s cool here is that he didn’t build a suit for himself this time, but rather a suit for his friend Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic Four.
9. Ghost Rider “possessing” a spacecraft; introducing the Ghost Quinjet
It was such a cool moment to see this current roster of Avengers knowing the capacity of their teammate, in this case, knowing that Ghost Rider can transform almost any vehicle into a fiery, demonic version they can fully utilize. In this case, the Avengers going against the combined forces of the Kree and the Skrulls together with the Cotati.
8. Captain Marvel becoming a Kree Accuser
In a surprise twist, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel suddenly joins the Kree-Skrull alliance after showing her strength and determination and saving the new Emperor, Hulkling during the initial encounter with the Cotati. Ofcourse its not that simple as there are some weird things going in with Ronan the Accusers hammer.
7. Tony Stark saving the day without the armor
We all know Tony Stark as the guy with the wonderful armor that saves the day. Empyre flips this by having Tony Stark save the day in his lab and being a science guy instead. You see “The Alliance” was set to burn the world using the sun and Tony actually used more of his brain this time and stayed in his lab to find a way to prevent this from happening.
6. The Star Sword
Teddy Altman became the leader of the Kree-Skrull Alliance and he got a brand spanking new sword he calls the “Star Sword”. It can be summoned anytime and he even lends it to T’Challa when they found out it can disrupt the Cotati and stop them dead in their tracks!
5. Wiccan and Hulkling are secretly married
It’s nice to know that this couple are actually hitched already. If anything and if you change the point of view, you could say that this whole event and this scenario to really boost up the two Young Avengers members’ marriage. And then we also get a bigger celebration at the end.
4. Thing and Alicia have “kids”
The subplot about the two warrior kids (one Kree and one Skrull) rescued by the Fantastic Four before the actual events of “Empyre” gets resolved by the end of the miniseries with Hulkling aka Dorrekk VIII giving the responsibility of taking care the kids to Ben Grimm and his wife Alicia Masters Grimm. This pushes the dynamics for Marvel’s First Family into an interesting direction.
3. She-Hulk goes through a roller coaster ride
Later when the Cotati turns out to be evil, the hammer they gave Jen Walters becomes a way for them to control Shulk. She ends up becoming part of the Cotati around the halfway mark of the story; and she even looks like a weird Cthulu creature when taken over by the plants.
She also beats the crap out of The Thing, Invisible Woman and the returning “Celestial Madonna” aka Mantis. By the end of story, Al Ewing connects the current status quo of She-Hulk with whatever’s happening in the pages of Immortal Hulk with the reference to the “Green Door”.
2. The return of Uatu the Watcher
In Fallout Fantastic Four, it appears that we delve deeper into who provided the Cotati with the weapons and technology to pull this invasion off. When Nick Fury aka The Unseen checks the weapons left behind and from that, the dead Watcher, Uatu, suddenly returns out of nowhere.
1. Black Panther being a bad ass!
In this story alone, we get to see why Captain America made the right choice of conceding leadership to King T’Challa aka The Black Panther. In the initial fight against the Kree-Skrull alliance, he joins the frontlines and even whips out a new space armor just for that fight.
He borrows Hulkling’s trans-dimensional sword to fight off invaders of Wakanda (and even doing the classic “Yibambe” chant fighting the Cotati).
And defeating the former Avenger Swordsman and his son, Quoia.
So there you have it, the Top 10 Cool Moments from Marvel’s Empyre! The singles are still available from your LCS minus Comic Quest 🙁 and if you like this and want to check it out in its entirety, you can also buy the digital version on Marvel Unlimited!
