Realme 6 Review – Top Tier Budget Phone for 2020
Is it worth getting the new realme 6 smartphone? Tune in to thefanboyseo.com for our realme 6 review!
TL;DR – the phone is impressive for the price range and what it can do. It looks stylish from both near and far and you get average to great performance when it comes to gaming.
Phone
This smartphone comes out of the box at ready to go. It still doesn’t have headphones though but you’ll understand with the price point and all. Plus realme has been kicking ass in their headphone and earphone products since last year (did I mention that they are really cheap but with good quality?)
Check out my Realme 6 unboxing below:
The build
The Realme 6‘s build is ergonomic and convenient. It follows the basic designs for the body like the headphone jack at the bottom together with the speaker as well as the Type C charger.
The fingerprint scanner also doubles as the power button.
I like how clean that side of the phone is. It’s hard not to miss it when you’re busy and need to open the phone. On a side note the camera for the face recognition software here is good. So good that it can even be annoying at times especially when you’re holding the phone to your face and it suddenly “wakes up”.
The sim tray as well as the volume rack is placed on the left side of the phone; yet another standard for realme phones. I also want to commend the brand for making the buttons look great (i.e. not looking cheaply made) and soft to touch.
The camera at the back is also another thing to give good marks for.Yes it has four cameras all lined up vertically and while they feel like they are jutting out of the phone, they don’t hardly mess with anything. There’s no “sabit” especially when you put it in your pocket.
The Realme 6’s back is also outstanding with the materials they used. Sure its plastic but its not your run-of-the-mill plastic. Plus the whole reflective gimmick is given new life by this Chinese brand.
Display
One of the key selling points for the Realme 6 would be the 90hz smooth refresh rate which makes scrolling through things on your phone visually better compared to the ones out in the market.
The tl;Dr explanation for this tech is that when you scroll left or right on your screen, it’s a lot faster than the usual smartphone currently available in the market. It’s also the selling point for realme. They have a screen that has 90hz for the price point of under P20,000.
The display also features a punch hole design for the front camera. Thank god they did away with the teardrop design because that was horrible.
Sound
If there’s one area where the Realme 6 falls behind it would be the audio. The speakers are just OK. It doesn’t sound weak or pathetic but it could have been improved with the available materials and parts today (there are actually parts that are also cheaper yet make audio sound really good). There are some times where I watched Netflix shows on the phone and had to scramble for a headphone because it was too soft.
Taking calls via loudspeaker can be a bit of a problem too with the 6. But again, for the price point, its understandable.
Gaming
I’ve had a pleasant experience with the Realme 6 in terms of gaming. There’s barely any overheating issue when I played maxed out settings for Mobile Legends Bang Bang…
Even games that I really consider “heavy” in terms of processing power is a cinch for this smartphone like Call of Duty Mobile.
There’s no flickering and this utilizes the 90hz screen they put into these phones. Aspect ratio is OK too. Chalk it up to the Helio G90T processor for smoother visuals and movements especially when you MLBB because that game gets insane quickly.
Camera
First off, is the Selfie camera/ front camera good? Hell yes!
Not much color saturation, the color is good and it also registers good in monitors and laptop screens. It’s good enough to bring along for events if you’re into blogging or vlogging. Will you look pretty or pogi with the device? I’ll drink to that. Again look at the selfie I put up top to see how this phone works in terms of selfie with its
The 6’s camera is also another main selling point for this smartphone. Who wouldn’t want to get a smartphone with a camera with 64 megapixels with a quad setup?
The night mode on the phone has its ups and downs though. Dimly lit places will get you GREAT shots like these:
As I mentioned earlier, the photos are hit or miss and you don’t get that much depth or quality when in this mode.
BUT
When you use the phone’s camera on a regular setting, you get vibrant shots that’s perfect. No undercooked shots and no photos that lack color and depth.
And here’s a sample shot of the macro settings for the main camera:
And another macro shot now with low light settings…
Check out some of the other modes that you can use with the Realme 6‘s camera.
Benchmarks

UI and Interface
It’s no different from other Android products. Just a heads up that this has the gallery style which you can access when you swipe up. Also its the first time that I actually enjoyed using the “Hot Apps” system when I started using this. Real quick way of getting the important apps installed like Messenger and Facebook; hell they even have PUBG ready for download.
And here’s a look at the specs from the “About Phone” section.
Realme 6 Review – Verdict
For the price of P13,990, you’ll be getting more than what you bargained for. I’ve always been a fanboy for Realme products because while they brand themselves as the budget-friendly brand, they actually come up with awesome products that go beyond the expectations and the 6 is the same thing.
Pros:
- Great camera for the price point – 64MP main
- Helio G90T processor works its magic
- 90hz screen refresh brings the phone to another level
- Punch hole design for the front camera is awesome!
- Battery life is surprisingly good paired with fast charging capabilities
- non-obtrusive browser and hot apps are intuitive
Cons:
- Audio output could have been better
- Still no earphones in the box (not really a con, just an observation. You’d do better to get the realme buds)
- Older processor compared to other competitors from the same price point.
