Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Director Scott Derrickson leaves the project, cites Creative Differences
A bit of sad news today for fans of Marvel Studios and Doctor Strange as director Scott Derrickson has announced his departure from the sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
On his Twitter, Derrickson posted this tweet about his involvement with Doctor Strange 2 and a bit on what had happened before production…
Marvel and I have mutually agreed to part ways on Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. I am thankful for our collaboration and will remain on as EP.

So that means he’s still executive producer for the movie but will no longer be really involved with the small details with the production.
But what could “Creative Differences” mean?
Well, there’s a lot of “noise” stating that Disney didn’t like how the “horror” aspect for “Multiverse of Madness” was going. Remember, Disney has a level of tolerance when it comes to dark elements and the macabre; something the source material from the comic books aren’t shy in dealing with. There’s also rumors suggesting that there are certain locations, characters and references that could be tackled that’s not OK with Disney.
This isn’t the first time that a director left the project shortly before production started. Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins was already getting ready to do Thor: The Dark World before parting ways with Marvel while Edgar Wright was also into production for “Ant-Man” when he called it quits with Marvel.
As for Doctor Strange himself, the film is slated for a 2021 release date and is expected to feature Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch. This sequel is also said to have ties with the Disney+ series WandaVision coming later this year.
