X-23 is a Wanted Wolverine in All New Wolverine’s Enemy of the State II
Happening in All New Wolverine in a few months is a sequel to the classic Mark Millar story “Enemy of the State” called, Enemy of the State II featuring Laurey Kinney aka X-23 involved as a target of a global manhunt much like her “father” Wolverine aka James Howlett.
Laura’s found life after her time being a programmable killer, a clone and somebody who grew up knowing that she was nothing more than a weapon. She’s grown from that and thanks in part to Wolverine, she’s grown to become a hero in her own right. X-23 later assumed the mantle of Wolverine after her biological “father” died and at the start of the new volume, became a caretaker and a sister too to another clone, Gabby.
For Enemy of the State II, coming this October, Laura’s ghosts come a callin’ with writer Tom Taylor and artist Nik Virella. This story arc starts with All New Wolverine # 13
According to Tom Taylor the catalyst for the whole story is similar to what happened in Millar’s story.
It begins with Laura being used to commit a terrible crime, which will see the State hunting her. She will be doing all she can to track down who used her, while also evading those who want to bring her in.
The writer had already planned this as early as issue # 4 but had to put that put the arc on the shelf opting instead for the first volume entitled “The Four Sisters”. He even planned for this to tie in neatly with past X-23 stories like “Target X” and “Innocence Lost”.
And since this is going to be a slam-bang Wolverine/ X-23 story, it should require a big baddie and for X-23, it had to be Kimura
We’ve been planning this a very long time. I actually pitched something close to this for our first arc before we decided to go in another direction with The Four Sisters. As for Kimura’s appearance, yes, she will definitely be back soon. She is a character who has tortured Laura from childhood. She is her Sabretooth. Their confrontation has been a long time coming.
We hope to tie up a lot of loose ends from Laura’s past in this arc. This one is a great jumping on point for new readers, but it’s also definitely one for longtime fans of her as X-23 with nods to “Innocence Lost” and “Target-X.”
