Thanos Sets his Sights on the Phoenix Force in a New Ongoing
Marvel’s cosmic baddie and future antagonist of the third Avengers movie Thanos will be getting his own ongoing book with a cool creative staff to boot.
The new Thanos ongoing series will be written by Jeff Lemire with art by Mike Deodato as revealed by Marvel through ComicBook.com.
Lemire draws several inspirations for how he will be scripting the new ongoing. First he admits to patterning his book with the current Darth Vader book written by Kieron Gillen. Other Thanos related books have also been used to develop the story in the ongoing include the classic Thanos Rising title by Jason Aaron, Kieth Giffen and more importantly tales written by Jim Starlin!
The book will also feature important characters in Thanos life including his brother Starfox…
… and his son Thane, which first appeared in Marvel’s INFINITY event written by Jonathan Hickman.
But the biggest clincher of them all is the fact that Thanos looks like he will on the hunt for the Phoenix force as seen in the promotional material provided by Marvel.
So let’s see, he’s already done the Infinity Gauntlets to death…
… then graduated to cosmic cubes…
and now the Phoenix Force. The thing is, that particular power source has yet to reappear in the Marvel Universe post-Secret War. And the last person we saw handling that power was none other than Scott Summers aka Cyclops…
Coincidentally (or not) Lemire is also handling writing duties for Death of X, a four-part story about the death of Cyclops and the beginning of the Inhuman and Mutant conflict.
Let’s see about this, we are after all picking up Infamous Iron Man as well in the coming months.
