Pokemon Go x One Piece Happening in Japan
If you’re into Pokemon Go and is currently in Japan right now, you may want to consider visiting the newly minted One Piece statue to get some awesome in-game Pokemon Go stuff including a Pikachu wearing Monkey D Luffy’s trademark strawhat.
So here’s what you get for the trouble of visiting Japan’s Kumamoto Prefecture. Visiting the One Piece statues around the area will showcase different kinds of PokeStops featuring the art done by One Piece’s creator Eiichiro Oda. On top of that, if you’re lucky, you can catch a Strawhat Pikachu (as seen above) and add it to your collection. The strawhat can also be found in the area which you can equip your avatar in-game.
What’s really interesting is that this partnership aka Pokemon Go x One Piece is to celebrate each franchise’s respective anniversary. One Piece is celebrating it’s 22nd anniversary this year while Pokemon Go is having it’s 3rd birthday. Oda is also a native of the Kumamoto prefecture hence the statues honoring the long-running manga series. He has also donated as much as 800 million yen to help in reconstructing the area after suffering heavy damage in an earthquake back in 2016.
Pokémon GO has previously helped bring in tourism to quake-affected areas, including a Snorlax event in Kumamoto, a Lapras event in Miyagi, and more.
