OPPO F9 Review – Design and Build
I’m surprised that they tweaked the phone’s design a bit particularly with the notch. The F7 had a generic look for its screen notch while the OPPO F9 did a teardrop design which makes it a lot more aesthetically… pleasing?
The F9 also follows standard designs that Oppo’s established with other smartphones they have released through the years.
The power button is still on the right hand side of the phone…
The volume control is still on the left hand side…
Audio jack, main speaker and microUSB charger is still in the bottom.
The rear cameras are still on the left part of the phone too.
Let’s not forget the fingerprint scanner too.
The phone is surprising light too, weighing in at 169.00 grams compared to the F7 which weighed 158.00 grams. Still not a hassle to carry around in your pocket with enough power to do all the things you want to do with your phone like play games or post stuff on social media.
Buyers can also enjoy three variants for the F9. You can get the Sunrise Red, the Twilight Blue and the recent addition, the Starry Purple.
OPPO F9 Review – Software
The F9 ships out with the new Oppo Color OS 5.2. Obviously its the most updated software they have for their phones. It works extremely well for the past models of the F-series and that still rings true for the new flagship smartphone. There’s also a number of new features you’ll surely love including:
The Game Bar!!!
I love the OPPO Color OS 5.2’s Game Bar because as you can see above you get to play your games peacefully and still switch to a different task on the fly. They designed the bar also to be as unobtrusive as possible. Oh and I found it really awesome that you can take screenshots while in your game without having to do the whole shortcut or accessing a different segment of the screen. It’s just there waiting to be used.
Oppo F9 Review – Battery and Charging

Tested out the #OPPOF9 and they werent joking about the #VOOCF9 charging power
As you can see above, I tried how fast you can charge with the OPPO F9 because, this was what they were marketing it. 33 minutes of talk with just 5 minutes of charging. And I’m definitely impressed and also they weren’t lying.
OPPO F9 Review – Camera and Photography
I have nothing but praises for the camera and the output of the F9. To recap, the smartphone has a 16 megapixel primary and 2 megapixel secondary camera (rear) to help with the depth effects for your shots. The front camera has a 25 megapixel one with screen flash for those great selfies, because they are the selfie experts after all.
Added benefits that I loved are the AI (Artificial Intelligence) scene detection system that optimizes your shots depending on the background.
Photos that you take with the F9 will feature color saturation level options as well as selfie and low light photography. My only gripe is that low light options are barely there compared to other phones in the market right now. Still, its pretty neat.
Other stuff that was in the OPPO F7 that’s also in the F9 are those cute stickers.
Selfies are an integral part of the OPPO brand and the F9 is still as powerful as it comes. OPPO brings back the screen flash for selfies…
Photos taken with the OPPO F9 look great too whether its with bright lights or low lights.
OPPO F9 Review – Gaming
Expect fast and smooth gaming sessions with the F9. Had fun playing games like PUBG and Marvel Future Fight and even Honkai Impact 3.
Thanks to the generous 6GB of RAM and 64 GB ROM, you really get to maximize playing all the popular games that are out now for mobile.
Performance
Here’s the Geekbench single core score for the OPPO F9:
The MediaTek Helio P60 works extremely well for this smartphone. I have experienced less lags for my blogging and gaming needs.
Opportunity F9 Verdict
The F9 is a flexible, all around smartphone that acts like a premium flagship at the price point of a mid-range phone. The camera won’t let you down and neither will the processor and chipset. It’s also light and easy. Oh and before we forget, it charges as fast as heck.
