Marvel Drops James Gunn from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Over Offensive Posts 10 Years Ago
Marvel has officially cut ties with director James Gunn over newly-revealed “offensive” tweets he posted on social media platform Twitter 10 years ago.
Alan Horn, Chairman of Walt Disney Studios had this to say:
The offensive attitudes and statements on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him.
Even movie journalists has confirmed that Gunn’s working relationship with Disney has been burnt to ashes after his Twitter posts were dragged into the light.

Hours after his offensive tweets were dragged back up, the Guardians of the Galaxy director went online and issued a statement.
Many people who have followed my career know when I started, I viewed myself as a provocateur, making movies and telling jokes that were outrageous and taboo,” Gunn shared. “As I have discussed publicly many times, as I’ve developed as a person, so has my work and my humor. It’s not to say I’m better, but I am very, very different than I was a few years ago; today I try to root my work in love and connection and less in anger. My days saying something just because it’s shocking and trying to get a reaction are over.
And in case you’re wondering what these tweets were, here are screenshots (which were later deleted)
Personally speaking, this doesn’t feel like a “joke” anymore. Feels wrong and while I love his work and contribution to the two Guardians of the Galaxy movies (read my review for Volume 2 here), pedophile jokes are just a step beyond the right direction. You also have to consider who Gunn’s employer is. Had it been other companies, they could have let this slide but they just have a moral obligation to their market.
Still, its the nature of WHY those tweets were “upped” that’s got me iffy. It felt like an attack on the man by SJWs, for whatever their reasons were. On this end, I do commiserate with him.
Then there’s the angle, at least for Americans, that Gunn shouldn’t get free pass on this if the current POTUS, Donald Trump had his “muck” dragged out in the past and continues to do so. Makes you want to think.
So what do you guys think? Leave a comment below and let’s discuss.
