Infamous Iron Man Victor Von Doom Has a Fan Within the Avengers (Avengers # 7)

Victor Von Doom “joins” the current Avengers for a one-and-done adventure and we actually we get to find out that one of the current members is actually a big fan of the Infamous Iron Man and former madman. We gotta thank the creative team of Mark Waid, Jeremey Whitley and Phil Noto.

We open this issue with the Avengers battling another slude-y tentacle monster in NYC. A few pages later, they take it down with with a team effort from Thor and Hercules and Captain America.

But it quickly reassembles just after Spider-Man’s quips…

Luckily for them, Doctor Doom aka Infamous Iron Man aka Victor Von Doom shows up.

And this is where we meet Doctor Doom’s biggest fan… fangirl. Hank Pym’s daughter and the Unstoppable Wasp, Nadia Pym. Also, had to giggle a bit when they were talking about having tea and then the first panel for the succeeding page reads “ten minutes later and cup of tea later”.

That’s so cute that she’s fangirling over the sight of Doom in front of her. So cute.

When the team finally agrees to help Doom out, they instantly get transported to a camp that bears a name we are currently missing, Sue Storm of the Fantastic Four.

They leave it up to Nadia Pym to infiltrate and find the source of this magical conundrum but before doing so, she gets a complete change of clothes courtesy of Doom’s magic.

She actually does manage to find out rather quickly who the magic users are in the Susan Storm camp, but they also trick her into magically submitting to their request. Only thing is that the request was to be a sacrifice to their magical benefactor.

When the Avengers show up, these camp girls suddenly become dangerous.

Doom and Nadia goe airborne to provide air support and also for Doom to be able to cast that magical blast he did earlier in the issue because the girls summoned the tentacle monster once more. The problem however is that if Doom casts the spell in the normal fashion, he may zap both the Avengers and the kids as well. Wasp gives a great solution and provides this issue’s best “team-up moment”.

Avengers # 7 also serves as a great way to develop Nadia as a character as a “strong, female character”. Yeah….

But in all seriousness, we get her heroic moment as she saves the ringleader from being sucked into the portal with Doom looking on. She’s also doing a speech while saving a life.

It ends well and Doom also reveals that with Nadia Pym around he now has hope for the future. He also admits that she inspires him to become hopeful. Then we get a teaser of sorts for AVENGER X and a look at the cover for Avengers #8 which still features Infamous Iron Man in their ranks.
