Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle Review
Here’s my Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle review which opens August 20 from Columbia Pictures Philippines and directed by Haruo Sotozaki and Hikaru Kondô!

The film is the first film in a trilogy and straps the anime for the ending so expect it to be action packed. “Demon Slayer is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge. It was serialized in Shueisha’s shōnen manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump from February 2016 to May 2020, with its chapters collected in 23 tankōbon volumes. It has been published in English by Viz Media and simultaneously on the Manga Plus platform by Shueisha. It follows teenage Tanjiro Kamado, who joins the Demon Slayer Corps after his family is slaughtered and the sole survivor, his younger sister Nezuko, is turned into a demon, in the hopes of turning her human again and defeating the demon king Muzan Kibutsuji.”
Tanjiro Kamado and the rest of the Demon Slayer Corps enter the final arc as Muzan Kibutsuji and his demons have made a decisive move that involves transporting the corp to the titular Infinity Castle where they plan to be slaughtered. Waiting for Tanjiro and the Hashiras are the remaining Upper Moons who have also some ties to the pillars such as Akaza (who killed the flame Hashira in “Mugen Train”) and Doma who had killed a number of hashira and somebody important in Inosuke Hashibira’s life.

First off Ufotable is at it again with the quality of the animation. If you loved the animation quality from the past movie releases or even the regular anime series then you’re eyes will pop out with delight in this one. Get ready to be dazzled by the fight scenes to the visual effects for special attacks and the fluid motion of each characters. Im actually excited to learn the frame count for the entire film because it so gorgeously animated.
The plot is also pretty good and the part where they chose to end the movie was also organic, like they knew how to pace this so its a natural marker for where to stop. It felt like it was a well needed break after hours of intense bloody battles. I also envy the anime fans who came in blind or have never read DSKNY. Y’all will be in for a wild ride. For fans have read the manga and are aware of what’s going to happen, you’ll still be in for a treat because YOU get to see those awesome fights in the big screen (bigger screen if you catch it on IMAX).
Not really a spoiler but the big fights for this film includes:
- Shinobu Kocho versus Doma
- Zenitsu Agatsuma versus Kaigaku
- Giyu Tomiyoka and Tanjiro Kamado versus Akaza
One of the best parts about Demon Slayer Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle is that they end small battle arcs by shedding the backstories of the characters involved in the fight and its still here. So at least we don’t HATE Akaza that much by the end of the film and we understand what makes Zenitsu so pissed at the start of the film. This has worked in both the anime series and the manga so expect to see more of this in this film as well as the last two films.

I also have to commend the decision to make it a 2 and a half hour film. That means you get that superior quality animation for that long so its a lot more enjoyable as a movie experience. Having it for almost 3 hours also means you don’t get the abridged version but rather faithfully lifting the scenes from the source material. At least we get to see the backstories a lot better versus shortened versions.
The musical scoring that accompanied the film was also beautiful. Long time fans of this series know how well they do musical scores but for this one, its lifted to the next level or as they say in the film, its brought us to the transparent world. Every explosion, every sword clash is perfectly sound engineered so its feels like a proper movie and not just an anime that was converted for the big screen.

Tanjiro falls into the sprawling, ever-changing Infinity Castle
