To stake or not to stake a claim on the tradename, the current conflict for COD aka Christmas on Display
Now booming at the flagpole area of Quezon City Hall is the famous Reymundo Animated Display, also known as the Manila COD Christmas On Display.
The return of the famous display marks the beginning of the Christmas season as has always been since it debuted in 1966 by the defunct Manila COD Department store at their Manila branch.
But what is this brewing behind the Animated Display about its trade name? According to a reliable source, the Araneta Center, Inc has thriced registered for the trade name Christmas On Display but was thrice turned down as the Rosario Animated Display, being the true and real owner, opposed this move.
Already in their third attempt to register and for which the ACI was once again denied, the Office of the Director General ordered them to cease and discontinue their registration. In its decision received last July 29, 2024, it was divulged that ACIs contuance to pursue the registration of the tradename Christmas On Display will negate the rationale of protecting the true owner. It reiterated that the ACI registered the tradename in bad faith.
Having been denied three times in a row, ACI is currently appealing the issue for the 3rd time. The question is does Araneta Center Inc have the right to stake a claim on the trade name Christmas On Display?
