NYX # 1 Spoilers – Who is The Krakoan

Marvel’s NYX # 1 by writers Jackson Lanning and Collin Kelly with art by Francesco Mortarino has introduced a new villain for this NYC-centric team book and it’s a former good guy that had a lot of potential back when he was first introduced in the X-Books.

So towards the end of this issue, Kamala Khan aka Ms Marvel who is the central character for this would-be team book responds to an emergency in the subways where she meets this mysterious new mutant who looks very much like Charles Xavier during their time in Krakoa and who calls himself “The Krakoan”.

The Krakoan does significant damage and Kamala ultimately decides to save people rather than stop this mad mutant’s rampage giving him a window to escape. Towards the end of NYX # 1 we already get a reveal on who “The Krakoan” is through a one page exposition.

So this unnamed new band of mutants includes The Krakoan who is revealed to be Hellion aka Jullian Keller, The Stepford Cuckoos and Dark X-Men’s Empath who was a problematic figure for their team back when Mr Sinister was running point on his own little team of mutants in Krakoa.

This also explains why it’s only Sophie of the Stepfords that Kamala Khan meets in school shortly before attending David Allerdyce aka Prodigy’s mutant-centric class.

It was a neat idea to have him wear visuals that represent both Professor X and Magneto too for his first outing as a mutant terrorist while also reflecting his new monicker as “The Krakoan”.

NYX seems pretty OK. Guess I need to follow this book closely.
