Marvel announces new Avengers run with writer Jed MacKay and C.F. Villa with fresh faces and new leader
Marvel has announced a new Avengers run following the departure of Jason Aaron and his current story arc with new writer Jed MacKay staring over a volume of The Avengers story with a new team and a new mandate.
This announcement also culminates the 60 years of Avengers too which I feel needs to be hyped up even further.
Anyway, the new book coming out in May 2023 will have a new team with Captain Marvel as the team’s leader together with staples like Thor, Iron Man, Captain America (Sam Wilson), Black Panther, Scarlet Witch and the Vision. Obviously its not as stacked as the original lineup for Aarons run which includes She-Hulk and Doctor Strange but I’m definitely OK with this lineup.
This team will assemble when they’re gifted with knowledge of “The Tribulation Events,” a series of grand-scale disasters that will spark upheaval throughout the known universe. Amazing Spider-Man artist Stuart Immonen will make a celebrated return to Marvel Comics for the title, providing the ongoing series with breathtaking new covers.
“I’m extremely excited to be launching the latest chapter of Avengers with my old Black Cat teammate C.F. Villa!” MacKay says. “I grew up on the Avengers, weaving in and out of their 60s and 70s exploits as a kid, and having the opportunity to plot the course of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes is a rush, especially coming from the street-level and/or weirdo niche I’ve been working in over the last couple of years.”
“This is big, loud Avengers stuff – nothing in this story should ever feel small or inconsequential, and our lineup reflects that. Heavy hitters and iconic Avengers are to the fore – The Tribulation Events are coming, and only the Avengers can take them on.”
Check out the cover for issue #1 below, and stay tuned for more details on Avengers ahead of its launch on May 17.
