5 Water Tipid Tips for Summer 2020!

Its going to be a super hot summer 2020 and as we (not really) welcome the summer heat into our lives, we’d like to share some 5 water tipid tips for Summer 2020!

1. Check for leaks in pipes and faucets.

The average household’s leaks can account for nearly 10,000 gallons of water wasted every year and ten percent of homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more per day. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on your water bill then you really need to have those faucets and pipes in your home fixed.

2. Collect used water and use it for gardening

Rather than throwing it down the drain, we also suggest you collect the water you used to wash dishes and use that same water to water the plants. Gardening can be a challenge during the summer season but believe us, it can save you a lot of money first from your water bill and secondly, you may not have to buy specific veggies or fruits because you’ve grown them in your backyard or frontyard or any space that you converted into a garden.

3. Use a bowl to wash veggies and fruits

Hands in gloves washing peppers into bowl, close up. Rinsing vegetables into metal bowl.

Instead of using running water to clean or rinse your vegetables or fruits, you should instead fill a big bowl with water and clean your produce there. You save a lot of water (and cut the charges on your water bill significantly too) and in turn the possible water shortage at bay.

4. Cut your Shower Time Shorter

We get it, its summer, its hot. So a shower is in order. But do you need to spend 30 minutes on the shower with the shower running at full blast? One way of saving water during the summer of 2020 is to cut short your time in the shower. A quick splash here, some lathering of soap there and then just step out. You’ll be able to happy to know that this is going to be good for everybody including your household.

5. Wash only full loads in your washing machine.

If you really want to cut the cost of water during this summer, we also suggest that you do laundry with full load and on a specific time too like once every two weeks. One problem that people overlook is that using a washing machine can be costly especially if you don’t maximize the clothes that you wash. Like having half a load running every other day is more costly than doing laundry once a week with multiple full loads.

Additional benefit here is that you also get to save on electricity, another precious commodity that is expected to skyrocket during the peak months of summer when everything is just so damn hot.

So there you have it, five tips that you can follow to save water during summer of 2020 and even beyond. We’re currently doing this partly because I recently did a visit to Ipo Dam to see how water gets distributed in Metro Manila and I really got to understand how it works and what are the challenges that are coming especially these incoming months. And hey, I also got to know why there’s water interruptions from time to time (tl;dr, they have a hard time with the water and they are also doing constant repairs to the facility so yeah, interruption).
