Kalalangan Weekend Fest: A Celebration of Kapampangan Culture at the vibrant outdoors of Filinvest Mimosa Plus
The Kalalangan Weekend Fest, held from August 31 to September 1, 2024, at the picturesque Acacia Park in Filinvest Mimosa Plus, wrapped up on a high note after bringing together a vibrant community to celebrate the rich Kapampangan culture. The event, hosted by Filinvest, immersed attendees in the deep artistic traditions that define this proud region of the Philippines.
Over the course of the festive weekend, traditional and creative activities were highlighted, including the unique craftsmanship and cultural heritage of Pampanga. From the exquisite culinary arts and traditional pottery to the delicate Kulitan calligraphy, the event showcased the multifaceted artistry of the Kapampangans.
The Kulitan calligraphy — a pre-colonial script preserved by cultural organizations like Ágúman Kalalangan Súlat Kapampángan (AGKAS) — captured the attention of many, offering a window into the region’s rich historical legacy. Moreover, engaging workshops on traditional calligraphy and pottery were conducted to honor the longstanding tradition and encourage the younger generation to appreciate and preserve the practice.
“Holding the Kalangan Weekend Fest at Filinvest Mimosa Plus is our way of celebrating Kapampangan pride and showcasing the rich culture of the region. Knowing that Clark is a growing tourist hotspot, this event provides the perfect opportunity to introduce the beauty of Kapampangan heritage to today’s modern community. By hosting it outdoors, in a place where people can jog, bike, and connect with nature, we create an environment that invites everyone to experience the vibrancy of local culture in a unique and engaging way,” said Don Ubaldo, First Vice President for Filinvest Townships.
The festival boasted a dynamic lineup of activities, featuring local artists and artisans in an interactive setting. As the activities were held outdoors surrounded by nature, attendees also enjoyed a vibrant and cozy atmosphere while showing appreciation for arts and crafts. They were left in awe as Kapampangan sketch artist Gwen Timoteo held live sketching sessions, offering personalized mementos in various artistic styles. Festival-goers also showed their artistic side by creating their own pottery pieces for souvenirs at the Pottery Workshop, which highlights the heritage of South Pampanga, known for its clay industries.
In addition to visual arts, the event offered a full sensory experience to all attendees with live acoustic performances that set a festive mood and the Eats by the Park Food Bazaar, which paired artistic explorations with a delightful array of delicious treats.
Filinvest Mimosa Plus served as an ideal venue for this cultural celebration. Its lush, green outdoor environment not only complemented the theme of arts and crafts but also reinforced the venue’s role as a prime location for community-driven and cultural events. This urban leisure destination was meticulously designed with such gatherings in mind, offering ample space for local talent to shine and traditions to be revitalized.
