Batman: Caped Crusader introduces gender-bent Penguin named Oswalda Cobblepot
DC Comics has dropped a new character look for the upcoming series Batman: Caped Crusader and its a genderswaped version of The Penguin named Oswalda Cobblepot..
The whole idea of reshaping the status quo is already something of a trademark for DC Comics’ project overseen by talented people like The Batman director Matt Reeves together with Bruce Timm and JJ Abrams. Verdict is still out on whether this was a good idea or not but it does get to move the story a little bit in a different direction; also changing the gender (like in Penguin’s case) or the race (like in Harley Quinn’s case) won’t change who they are and what their impact is to the story and to Batman. Penguin’s MO will still be the same and the same goes for the Asian Harley Quinn so there really shouldn’t be a big fuss over this.
Here’s the first clip that was released by Prime Video giving fans a look at the 50s/ 40s inspired look and feel for the series and for Batman himself.
Batman: Caped Crusader will be featuring the voice of Hamish Linklater as Batman / Bruce Wayne as well as Jamie Chung as Harley Quinn aka Dr. Harleen Quinzel and more. Oswalda Cobblepot aka Penguin will be voiced by Minnie Driver which is a nice surprise especially for 90s movie fans.
Batman: Caped Crusader drops its entire 10-episode first season on August 1 on Prime Video.
