HONOR 200 Review – Harcourt Studio Feels and More

HONOR brings up their A(I) gane with the HONOR 200 which is now out in stores. Here’s my HONOR 200 Review which has SRP P24,999 and features 6.7 OLED Display, 50MP Triple System Main Camera and more!

HONOR returns with a new numeric offering and this time focuses on upping their camera game even going to Paris to work with Harcourt Studios to provided a bombastic and interesting smartphone under P30,000!

Display

The HONOR 200’s display comes out swinging with a 6.7 OLED display that has a 1200 x 2664 display. It’s big enough for you to enjoy your streaming or your games without having to strain your eyes so much. You can also enjoy the use of this smartphone outdoors because it can get very very bright peaking at 4000 nits working in tandem with its 120Hz refresh rate. Circling back a little, the screen-to-body ratio is also pretty good clocking in at 90.0%. The colors are solid and there’s very little you can want more.

One small thing that you might look for is the curved display which is barely there. For me, I liked it but it might not be other mobile users’ cup of tea.

The screen-to-body ratio of 90.0% is also great for watching, playing mobile games or even Tiktok videos.

Design

I have to admit, I liked how it feels when you hold the phone. The rounded corners are just right and its definitely nice to hold on to. The HONOR 200 comes in a bunch of colors namely Coral Pink, Moonlight White, Emerald Green, and Black. The triple camera is also nicely situated on the site and the way it protrudes doesn’t hamper how you hold the phone.

Camera

The HONOR 200 also sports the Triple Camera System which we consists of:

  • 50 MP, f/2.0, (wide), 1/1.56″, 1.0µm, PDAF, OIS
  • 50 MP, f/2.4, (telephoto), PDAF, OIS, 2.5x optical zoom
  • 12 MP, f/2.2, 112˚ (ultrawide), AF

The extra setup you can see above is for the LED light and flash. The camera has three main filters to choose from for the normal camera.

Here are some shots using the main camera:

HONOR has been continually saying that the phone can take portrait photos on the same level as Harcourt Studios and I definitely get where they are coming from as seen in the portrait above. You will get three modes of shooting distances including a wide angle shot and ultra-wide angle shot that can take in a lot of things that’s perfect for when you are outdoors.

The macro mode is also something to write about. The details for macro are pretty good with lines and colors more pronounced. improved lighting can also drastically improve the output.

If you collect toys or gunpla and want to share photos of your kits or collectibles then this phone’s camera will work best for you. Activate the Super Macro feature and be ready to see the big picture and all the possible details in your teeny tiny subject.

The selfies from the front camera comes with a 50MP front camera / selfie camera that also supports HDR and can shoot either 4K@30fps or 1080p@30fps. You can also toggle the video output or aspect ratio depending on your needs including:

  • 21:9 @ 4K
  • 21:9 @ 1080
  • 16:9 @ 1080p
  • 16:9 @ 720p
  • 16:9 @ 1080p
  • 16:9 @ 4K

The Portrait mode definitely hits the sweet spot when it comes to getting that Harcourt Studios output and photos.

Just remember to set it up with a couple of buttons in the setting menu.

Videos are also pretty good for the price point.

UI/ UX

The HONOR 200 comes out of the box with the MagicOS version 8 running together with the Android 14. This version can be a little confusing especially since swiping down from the left side will bring down the notifications (by default)…

And swiping down from the right side will bring the control console. Scrolling left and right is smoother than ever thanks to the refresh rate and the phone’s chipset which happens to be a Qualcomm SM7550-AB Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 (4 nm). It’s very fast making the HONOR 200 a very sleek smartphone to use.

Battery

The HONOR 200 comes with a 5000mAh battery that’s pretty standard for most of the smartphones that are available in the market today. Because of the battery, it’s not heavy to carry around and makes the phone still slim enough. The real thing that we need to talk about here is the fast-charging capability of the HONOR 200 when working together with its own native charger that can hit 100W of charging power. Other brands I’ve reviewed can only go for 80W so this is a first and is a testament on the dependability of the HONOR 200 as your everyday driver.

Gaming

The gaming experience for this smartphone is also good so far. For all the top and popular games, you can enjoy the quality thanks to the combination of refresh rate, processor and display. There’s also very little heating issues so it’s all good. In fact, the HONOR 200 series will also be the phone of choice for an upcoming Esports competition. And honestly, the battery levels are pretty good too add to that the fact that it’s got fast charging capabilities, you can definitely see why it’s also a reliable phone when gaming is your jam.

HONOR 200 Review Thoughts

The HONOR 200 is one of the top phones you can get for less than P30,000 even the HONOR 200 Pro version still falls under that price range so it’s definitely a good sign. I can really say that if you’re not focused heavily on the brand name or whether it’s “flagship” or not, the HONOR 200 is the smartphone for you. The camera is reliable and it can zoom pretty well and you can take clear photos and videos even in a dimly-lit place like a concert. The screen is also clear enough and bright enough and hits all the checkmarks for what is needed for a smartphone and finally the camera features and output is insane.
