Longlegs Review – Nicolas Cage, Maika Monroe, Osgood Perkins

Longlegs is the latest directorial effort from Osgood Perkins, son of Norman Bates actor Anthony Perkins, who has been making a name for himself in the horror genre.

I believe this is one of the films are best experienced when you have little to no knowledge of the plot so I will keep this review as brief as possible.

The story follows Lee Harker (Maika Monroe), a rookie FBI investigator who’s assigned to catch the occult serial killer named Longlegs (Nicolas Cage). As with most good horror movies, this film does an excellent job at conveying the feel of dread throughout the film, especially through atmosphere, scoring, and pacing.

Nicolas Cage is excellent in a near unrecognizable performance as the eponymous serial killer known as Longlegs. Maika Monroe gives off an emotional performance through her mannerisms and eyes as the stoic Lee Harker. Overall, this film borrows tropes from prior horror films such as Silence of the Lambs, The Shining, and Seven, them uses them to great effect to tell its own story.

Catch Longlegs, in cinemas now! Thank you to Viewers Choice PH, Pioneer Films, and SM Cinemas for last Monday’s screening.
