TECNO returns with the TECNO CAMON 30 Pro 5G is the latest smartphone for the CAMON family aimed to provide good quality output for vloggers and gamers alike with two crucial elements namely the SONY IMX 890 Flagship sensor 50MP Main camera and MediaTek Dimensity 8200

TECNO CAMON 30 PRO 5G – DISPLAY

TECNO wasn’t joking when they came up with the display for the CAMON 30 PRO 5G especially for its price range. The display is big at 6.78″ Full HD AMOLED Display with 360Hz Touch Sampling Rate and Peak Brightness of 1300 nits. The 30 Pro also has the distinction of being the only one in the entire series to have 144Hz variable refresh rate.

You’ll be quite happy with the CAMON 30 PRO 5G’s display starting with the 144Hz Self adaptive refresh rate True AMOLED Screen. This means you get good quality visuals whether you’re watching videos or playing games. It’s also so convenient that they designed in the 144Hz Self Adaptive Refresh Rate so all you really have to do is just watch and the screen adjusts for you!

And because it’s so high tier in terms of display features, the CAMON 30 PRO 5G has also been chosen as the official tournament phone for the Farlight Philippines Championship. This version can also support up to 120 FPS in both MOBA games like Mobile Legends Bang Bang and Honor of Kings!

TECNO CAMON 30 PRO 5G – DESIGN

The CAMON 30 PRO 5G comes in two colors namely the Alps Snowy Silver and the Icelandic Basaltic Dark. Unfortunately the Snowy Silver version is only available for the vegan leather version. If you plan on getting a CAMON 30, either of the two works fine but if you want sleek and chic, the Basaltic Dark unit’s pretty OK.

It was not a coincidence that the TECNO CAMON 30 PRO 5G kind of looks like a camera with its main endorser and ambasador also a renowned film director because they really followed the classic camera design from the circular lens module together with the side-axis visual stereo effect.

I’m even surprised that the back panel known as the “breathing light” here with TECNO provides a few more additional help and conveniences.

For one it’s an indicator that you are recording as well as serve as a photo countdown and also doubles as an incoming call indicator. It’s not much but it provides convenience and comfort especially if you’re hard at work recording or vlogging.

One of the improvements from the last CAMON released versus the CAMON 30 PRO 5G would have to be the slim design. TECNO has gone on the record about the TECNO CAMON 30 PRO 5G being “ultra thin, ultra flat and ultra light” and it’s hard to argue over FACTS.

The unit I used for this TECNO CAMON 30 PRO 5G Review was a glass unit and it weighted 194 grams and was around 7.68mm. That’s super light and super thin for 2024’s standards especially for 5G smartphones coming out this year.

One minor gripe is that if you’re used to working or holding on smartphones is that it’s a little too blocky for me. Makes it a little tough to lug around but that camera quality and aesthetic more than makes up for that bit.

The TECNO CAMON 30 Pro 5G features a triple 50MP Camera System which includes the Sony IMX890 50MP OIS Main Camera (support 4K 60Fps Video) +50MP 114° Anti-Distortion Wide-Angle Lens + 50MP Eye-tracking Autofocus Front Camera with dual colour temperature flash. They really weren’t kidding when they said that they would be using a 50MP Triple Camera system.

Both the front and the main cameras can also shoot 4K 60 FPS videos which makes it great for vlogging hands down.

The 50MP front camera is also doing really great if you ask me.

As you can see, the quality is pretty neat. It captures all the fine details and the colors look natural and not overcooked.

And since AI is the “in” thing for smartphones this year, TECNO is also keen on joining with their special AIGC Portrait Function on both the main and the front camera. You take clear selfies and the AI system will basically stick your face into pre-rendered artwork. Here are some fun shots I took.

There’s also the AI Eraser for this one which helps you remove any unnecessary parts in the photo that you dont want in the final output.

 

TECNO CAMON 30 PRO 5G – Battery

In terms of battery usage you can bank on a good battery life with the 5000mAh battery. In case you find yourself in a pinch and you need to get a quick charge, you can also use the phone’s 70W Ultra Charge system. The AI Smart Charging system also allows you to speed up your charging wherein you can expect 50% charge of your phone in under 15 minutes. A full charge, 100% on the other hand requires around 47 minutes.

 

TECNO CAMON 30 PRO 5G – Performance

The CAMON 30 PRO 5G is also a heavyweight for good performing smartphone under 20,000 php for 2024 as it features the powerful MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate 5G chip which has an Antutu score of 964,900+. What I liked about this phone is that it has different settings to optimize your game depending on the game for example, when playing Mobile Legends Bang Bang and the new MOBA Honor of Kings you get to max up the display quality to 120FPS.

Meanwhile when you’re playing PUBGM or PUBG Mobile you can expect the standard 90 FPS, which is no biggie at all.

Gaming with the CAMON 30 PRO 5G also means that you could worry that the phone isn’t stressing so much or could overheat as it’s also equipped with a 9 layer gaming grade Cooling System.

The storage is also pretty dependable with 256GB storage, that’s quite a number of photos and videos that you can store on the phone. However, if you plan to use the phone to take 1080p or 4K resolution videos, that storage space can quickly fill up so I suggest you transfer the data somewhere else like in an expandable memory card or your laptop.

This smartphone runs on the Android 14 with the HiOS version 14. Maybe it’s just a personal preference but I am a little peeved that you have to swipe down the left part of the phone to access the settings, the volume and more while swiping the right portion brings down the notification. Again, it might be OK for you but for me, it’s a big no-no.

TECNO CAMON 30 PRO 5G REVIEW – FINAL THOUGHTS

With the P15,999 price tag, you can definitely get your money’s worth with the TECNO CAMON 30 PRO 5G. You have a triple camera system to take really awesome photos, a 50MP front cameras for equally awesome selfies, a Dimensity 8200 chip that helps you on your gaming and other mobile phone needs and you’ve got that 6.78″ Full HD AMOLED Display with the great refresh rate. Handling and doing the review made me think that this was around the P30,000 mark but it was actually under P20k. So you don’t have to go and settle for lower end units from other brands when you can get this and full enjoy its features especially if you plan on doing that vlogger bit or Tiktok bits down the line.
