X formerly Twitter makes Liked Contents Private

Today Twitter now known as X has officially rolled out a new update for its interface which puts all the liked contents of users private.

So the understanding is that the whole putting the like to private was to protect user privacy. There are of course pros and cons for this.

But given that X has publicly announced some days ago that they welcome pornography in their system, it feels like the real reason they put the like on private was because they don’t want other users to see what one user likes especially when it comes to adult content.

But then again putting the like on private also does protect users from getting their digital preferences stolen and weaponized against them.

Then there are also data brokers who could use the data on Twitter likes to compile a dossier or at least have an idea on who a person is through the things they liked on X.

There is a funny Facebook post though that kind of puts an exclamation point on why this has happened involving X’s CEO and owner Elon Musk.

But what do you think?
