No word yet on when this figure will be released but its good enough to know that McFarlane Toys and DC Comics are doing action figures from different eras like this one. Hopefully we get to see the Black Suit Superman with the mullet and jetboots as well as Cyborg Superman aka Hank Henshaw.
John Henry Irons or Steel was created by Louise Simonson and Jon Bogdanove and first appeared in The Adventures of Superman # 500 which was released June 1993. His backstory was that he was a brilliant scientist and inventor who was disgusted with what people had used his inventions for (which was turned into a weapon and killed a bunch of innocent people). So he faked his death and went to Metropolis to start a new life. That’s when he was first saved by Superman who he asked what he could do as repayment. The Man of Steel then responded with “Live a Life worth Saving”.
During Death of Superman story arc, John Henry was in Metropolis for the epic fight between Superman and Doomsday. Steel tried to help Superman fight Doomsday by picking up a sledgehammer but was subsequently buried by rubble before he could do anything.
During Reign, he gets to work on making his own tech and armor becoming one of the four Supermen that emerged after the death of the real Superman, Clark Kent.
Since then he has joined the Justice League and went on and off retirement.
