Junji Ito x Magic the Gathering happening again with new art for Phyrexia: All Will Be One
Acclaimed horror manga superstar Junji Ito will be doing another Junji Ito x Magic the Gathering collaboration this time showing his art for some of the cards for the upcoming set Phyrexia: All Will Be One which is set for release February 2023!
The card he does is called Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines, a legendary Phyrexian creature that has the “vigilance” ability which powers up permanents that enter the game. I gotta say in traditional Junji Ito fashion, this has all sorts of body horror vibe in it and fans of both the CCG or collectible card game and the author’s works should be giddy for this.
The expansion that Magic: The Gathering chose for Ito is also one that works really well for him as it focuses on the creatures known as the Phyrexians, beings that’s a mix of machine and meat the very grotesque description fits perfectly into Ito’s MO.
The set which will be released (hopefully) by February 2023 will come in a different packs and packages including the traditional Booster and Collector’s packs.
Be on the lookout for two new Commander Decks too, namely the white/black/green deck “Corrupting Influence” and red/white Rebellion Rising deck.
It will feature 10 planeswalkers, though we have yet to see those online.
For this deck, we will also be seeing a new kind of foil treatment for some of the cards which Wizards of the Coast is referring to as “oil slick”.
Its also reported in the recent stream for the game that the Jumpstart Booster packs will also be returning.
Lastly, expect three new Secret Lair drops. Now word yet if Ito’s art will be appearing in these drops.
