Lucky Me releases statement after controversial social media post that it contains Ethylene Oxide

The brand Lucky Me has released an official statement after a social media post went viral saying it has been banned in other countries because it contained Ethylene Oxide!

According to their statement, they clarified that they do not use Ethylene Oxide in Lucky Me! products.

They also explained that the chemical is commonly used treatment in spices and seeds to “control microbial growth in agricultural products”. When these materials are processed and eventually tested, there will be trace elements of Ethylene Oxide.

In accordance with the Food Safety Act and Regulation (EC) No. 178 of 2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council, the Environmental Health Directorate within the Superintendence of Public Health wishes to inform the public that following information received through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed said products must not be consumed due to high levels of Ethylene oxide (a pesticide).
