Ang Babae sa Likod ng Face Mask Episode 1 Review

Recently saw the first episode for the new web series Ang Babae Sa Likod ng Face Mask starring Herlene Budol aka Hipon Girl and Joseph Marco. Here’s my Ang Babae sa Likod ng Face Mask Episode 1 Review!

The shots were pretty standard with a more cinematic feel to it. I noticed a few really good shots here and there and I hope the succeeding episodes they release are of the same quality.

In terms of humor, found it ok too with a lot of witty banter between Budol and the cast. The potential beauty queen still needs some fine tuning but you can see that director Chris Cahilig brings in his expetise when it comes to comedy to elevate Budol’s performance. But there are still times that she’s not into it… yet

Was not a fan of some the stuff here like the whole “pranking” stuff or the more cliche situations that befall on the characters like Budol’s Malta and Joseph Marco’s Sieg. Like Malta is riddled with money problems and Sieg is heartbroken. Also not a big fan of the whole usage of TikTok and the trending of dancing in front of that video platform which manages to end up in this series.

The first episode of Ang Babae sa Likod ng Face Mask does promise to give viewers some romantic moments and the ending of the first episode does exactly that with Malta and Sieg meeting and all that. But what wasn’t clearly established was how the facemask plays a part. Maybe in the succeeding episodes yeah?

I’m also hoping we get more of Budol’s Malta and Kiray Celia scenes because the ones that they have was the secondary conflict here. Kiray as a full fledged “kontrabida” could definitely spice things up. I felt it was lacking for this episode so hopefully this little plot detail in the next few episodes.

Joseph Marco also is a good fit for the role here because he’s good at playing strong silent type characters so its natural acting for him already. Plus he’s carrying the mushy scenes so that’s good. He’s still doing “TV acting” but its a lot better because the platform where the series comes out isn’t for TV exclusively.

Verdict:

Overall, the first episode is off to a good start. It’s fun and current while still saddled with the usual Pinoy TV tropes and characterization. I want to see where they will take the character Malta and Sieg, their blossoming romance and how it will affect the people around them.
