Motorola Moto G51 5G review
Here’s my Motorola Moto G51 5G review which is out now in stores and thru online platforms! It currently retails for
Design
The design for the smartphone is pretty standard with a plastic unibody design. I liked the matte finish they gave the smartphone but I have to warn you its a fingerprint magnet. Props to Motorola also for designing the phone to be easy to hold/ grip.
Like most of the phones out in the market today, the Moto G51 5G has a bit of the camera protuding. So its not a smooth touch from end to end. Still the nice thing is that its not as pronounced or as protruding as other smartphones. It doesn’t also make the phone unwieldly or “twitchy” when placed on the table. Another bonus design-wise is the water-repellent feature of the phpne’s unibody. This one has a IP52 which means it could survive with quick brushes with water.
If you’re also used to teardrop/ waterdrop design on your smartphone then you’ll be happy to know that this phone doesn’t follow suit. The only drawback is that the pinhole front camera/ selfie camera can be jarring especially if you’re using the phone on full-screen.
My other major bummer when it comes to phones and review is also back with a vengeance, the Google Assistant button which not only returns but also gets moved to the right hand side of the phone, just above the volume rocker. I’ve been duped multiple times with this button, thinking I was pressing the volume rocker only to find that I’ve accidently pressed the Google Assistant.
The left side is where the SIM tray can be found.
The bottom hosts the speaker, the USB charging port (type-c) and headphone jack.
Display
For the price point, the Moto G51 5G features a 6.8 inch screen with a whopping 120Hz refresh rate rather than a 144Hz. This makes for smooth visuals whether you are streaming movies or playing games. The display also features 1080 x 2400px at 20:9 ratio.
Camera
The main camera features:
50MP Main Camera (f/1.8 Aperture, PD Autofocus)
8MP Ultra-wide (f/2.2 Aperture, 118˚ FoV)
2MP Macro (f/2.4 Aperture)
There are tons of different shots to use including:
And here are the samples using the different camera modes.
For the front camera, we have a 13 Megapixels (f/2.2 Aperture) and the colors are just fine.
Battery
The moto G51 5g packs a punch with its 5000mAh battery; personally, when I used this, I was happy that I didn’t have to worry about charging and charging. Just one full charge for a day of heavy to moderate usage including using mobile data. So in that front, its satisfying.
UI and UX
It bothers me why this phone came out with an Android 11 OS rather than an Android 12 one. I just couldn’t figure why they had to go about with an older model rather than implement the latest version?
It’s a little weird to see the brightness slider at the top most part of the drop down as opposed to other Android smartphones. While its a personal thing, I’m happy that the interface got rid of the “auto” brightness on this one. But if you’re the type who looks for that option, then you’ll be sorely disappointed.
You can also choose between a gesture navigation or 3-button navigation. I chose more of the 3-button navigation.
