What’s the deal with the X-Men’s Legionnaires?

So a week or so ago, Marvel began teasing this new book and a new team called Legionnaires and it was pretty obvious that they would be taking over the Way of X book with a new team, new members and a new goal. Last week’s X-Men: Onslaught Revelation by Si Spurrier and Bob Quinn wraps up the current beat and introduces readers to a new adventure.

So at the end of the story, Nightcrawler cements himself as a leader of a group of mutants that looks to protect this new psychic world where the mutants of Krakoa can interact and heal and love in a private space. They did establish this after defeating Onslaught who once again took over the body of Charles Xavier and intended to kill all the mutants of Krakoa with Xavier’s telepathy.

After doing away with Onslaught, Nightcrawler and Legion meet up and discuss what they intend to do with their freedom and free time. Kurt Wagner suggests that they should maintain a peacekeeping for for their little psychic world.

Totally wasn’t expecting this with Legion aka David Haller and Nightcrawler growing close and forming their own X-Men subgroup. And if you look at the teaser for this team, they also have a wild bunch of characters like Juggernaut,Pixier, Blindfold, Nightcrawler and Doctor Nemesis.

I do wonder though whether Blindfold here is the real deal or just a manifestation used by Legion to be on the field. After all he’s now officially hooked up in Krakoa and managing the astral plane for mutant recreation and creativity and he even said it himself, his mindscape has become the Legionnaire’s precinct while they are still operating.

Could Blindfold’s reappearance also have ties to what’s going in Inferno particularly with the return and resurrection of the mutant precog Irene Adler aka Destiny?
