Sangonomiya Kokomi Chinese VA Gui Niang gets harassed by fans during live stream session by angry Genshin Impact fans
Sangonomiya Kokomi’s Chinese voice actress Gui Niang recently got harassed on the chat of her most recent livestream session. The culprits were a bunch of angry Genshin Impact fans who were very frustrated with the way the developed handled the Genshin Impact anniversary.
The Chinese VA for the 5 star Genshin Impact character recently did a live stream which got ugly fast when angry fans started to post negative comments in the chatbox and express their displeasure for the newest Genshin Impact character and for Mihoyo’s handling of the game’s first anniversary where they were expecting more in-game rewards.
Some fans even directly linked Niang’s work and the character she voiced for the character’s perceived weakness in the game.
These comments and negative attitude prompted the voice actress to make restrictions to her live stream.
Sadly this isn’t the first time VAs or Voice Actors got unwarranted backlash from fans. The same thing happened to Zack Aguilar who is still the English voice actor for the male MC or main character Aether. After the live stream announcements for Genshin Impact version 2.1 was done, there were some fans who spammed him and threw negative comments and accusations about his work in the game. The VA then published a tweet about his experience.
I’m frustrated. Voice actors don’t know everything about the projects we’re in. We’re normal people with jobs that we do our best on.
People make all these assumptions about us and our work, esp with English VAs. There’s a lot we can’t clarify. But mentally, it’s draining.
