OnlyFans banning sexual content starting October 2021
It looks like OnlyFans is banning sexual content with the ban hammer starting to fall starting October 2021.
The platform was launched in 2016 and has since gained fame as a platform for more raunchy and adult content with a paywall. If you’re not aware what this is, its basically a big fan site where male and female artists can interact with their fans for a price and push more paid content. Mostly the exclusive contents are of sexual nature so definitely not a family friendly but very legal and very adult experience.
However, a new update reveals that porn content/ sexually explicit contents wil no longer be allowed on the website. This comes as a big bow to sex workers who earned money for explicit content for their followers and fans. However, there’s a little silver lining here, so while these content creators may not longer earn from video content, OnlyFans.com will still allow nude photos and “some” videos as long as it falls under the website’s policy. These new set rules will be made public and rolled out soon according to the website.
Due to the pandemic, the social media service grew tremendously with sex workers, musicians and online influencers earned money through fans paying for exclusive access to videos, photos and other materials, yes including those sexually explicit materials. If you want numbers for this website, you would be surprised that it has gathered around 130 million users.
Some of the more popular and mainstream talents who also earn money through OnlyFans are Bella Thorne and Cardi B.
Thorne even released new music videos through OnlyFans last year and generated massive amounts of money when she’d gone public about opening an OnlyFans account.
What Happened?
According to reports OnlyFans had to change their tune mainly because of the constant pressure they get from their payment providers and banking partners. The popular website is currently trying to raise money from potential investors to the tune of $1 billion and they could possibly miss the mark if they continue with their current business model.
“In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of our platform, and continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines,” OnlyFans said. The company is run by its founder, Tim Stokely, and owned by Leonid Radvinsky, an internet entrepreneur.
In terms of sales and earnings, reports are coming in that they made $2 billion in revenue last year and stands to generate twice the amount for 2021.
