Mystique’s secret mission brings the X-Men closer to destruction – X-Men # 20 spoilers
We have a major X-Men # 20 spoilers post here with a one and done issue starring mutant shapeshifter Mystique with her failed secret mission that may bring the future of the X-Men and the rest of Krakoa into serious trouble.
Spoiler alert for X-Men # 20 by Jonathan Hickman and Francesco Mobili.
This issue starts with Mystique going to Forge, requesting for a new weapon that she could use for a special mission she’s about to do for Charles Xavier and Magneto.
And the end product is a mini-black hole bomb, which she presents to Xavier and brings along with her into a gate leading to the Orchis station in deep space.
The book shifts focus to the people in Orchis with Alia GregorĀ finding a way to bring back her husband Erasmus Mendel who got killed during the events of House of X / Powers of X.
It only took a few moments for Mendel inside the body of Nimrod to determine that Mystique was among the members of the mutant-hunting supergroup composed of various entities including SHIELD, HAMMER, AIM and even Hydra.
Mystique activates the black hole bomb and runs away. Nimrod/Mendel duplicates himself and orders the copy to chase Mystique. Meanwhile, the OG Nimrod decides to save the space station by creating a duplicate to shield his wife and teleport the bomb outside where it will safely detonate.
The Nimrod catches up with Mystique before she manages to pass through the Krakoan gate. The Nimrod throws Mystique’s lifeless body back to Krakoa and land in front of Professor X and Magneto.
The next thing we see Mystique, she’s being resurrected and her deal with the pair to resurrect Destiny no longer stands. Xavier even being smug about it.
With Nimrod operational, it also means that Xavier and Magneto need to discuss their next move together with their secret member, Moira X aka Moira McTaggert.
It also appears that they already collected all of Destiny’s diaries, an important set of books that tells the X-Men about their future. It’s also another reason why there are no precog mutants in the island of Krakoa, which was also touched on by the end of House of X and Powers of X.
