vivo Y20s [G] Review

Vivo has recently launched a brand new budget gaming smartphone in the form of the vivo Y20s (G) but is it worth getting or should you go and get another gaming-centric phone? Find out in this vivo Y20s [G] Review.

Design

vivo Y20s [G] Review

Pretty standard design for this smartphone. No popping cameras this time as everything is designed compact and tight again due to the focus on gaming. This is of course thanks to the “polished 2.5D body”.

The back features a glossy metallic design but it’s really plastic too alas, its still a fingerprint and smudge magnet. Still the design looks great so you may consider sticking with the jelly case just to show off the back side of the smartphone. There are also two color designs available in the market namely the Obsidian Black and Purist Blue.

The volume rocker on the right side of the phone is slightly bigger than the other models from vivo which is a good thing especially when you want to amp up the volume while playing.

This smartphone also boasts of 0.17s Side-Mounted Fingerprint Scanner. Faster than previous models and definitely works really well.

Display

The vivo Y20s [G] features a 6.51-inch Halo FullView Display with Eye Protection that works extremely well with a 20:9 aspect ratio and a maximum screen resolution of 1600 x 720. I liked the display’s output too which features crystal clear details whether its for gaming or for streaming videos on Youtube or Netflix. And like current mods from Vivo, the Y20s [G] also has Eye Protection Mode which comes in handy in protecting your eyes with that pesky blue light.
And I have to comment on how nice and tactile this smartphone. It’s easy to hold…

And texting or typing with the smartphone is so easy to use…

Camera

The vivo Y20s (G) comes with a 13MP main camera together with

Here are some shots using the different settings of the smartphone.

Battery

The Y20s (G) features a power packed 5000mah battery. It’s dependable enough for whole day trips or situations where you left the charger at home. One full charge definitely has enough juice to last 24 hours and that includes an hour or two of online games and massive usage of social media apps via mobile data.

Sound

If there’s anything that really hampers the Y20s [G] for me, it would have to be the sound. The speakers and sound output it makes felt what we Filipinos like to call “Tunog Lata” which is a weak and flimsy sound coming from a tin can. Even if we try to max out the sound, the sound quality is horrendous.

Gaming

Check out a compilation of videos I shot while playing games on the vivo Y20s [G] namely games like Call of Duty: Mobile and Genshin Impact.

So far playing games with the vivo Y20s [G] is super fun and convenient. My biggest gripe with smartphones would always be overheating and surprisingly, there’s really no overheating issues here with this smartphone. This is also thanks to the phone’s processor, which is a Mediatek Helio G80. The GPU is a Mali-G52 MC2 so its’ definitely expected to give good output.

UI and UX

Here’s a look at the home segment of the phone.

This phone also has features like the Ultra Game Mode, Jovi, Digital Wellbeing, Parental Controls, and more. Bloatware will always be an issue or a non-issue and yes, there are a number of apps pre-installed here that we’ll barely or even NOT use at all.

vivo Y20s [G] Review – Verdict

The vivo y20s [G] is definitely a good gaming smartphone for budget-conscious Filipinos. How budget-friendly is the phone? It’s just ₱9,999. Just an OK camera and design but its really the processor that makes it such a good buy.
