TRENDING: Admin wants to cut down trees and build a “Mega Vaccination Site” in Nayong Pilipino
Trending topic right now is the story about the government wanting to cut down the trees inside Nayong Pilipino to turn it into a massive “Mega Vaccination Site” to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to reports, the so-called vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr wanted to get work done on the project which will be built on reclaimed land protected by the Nayong Pilipino Foundation. He believes that the mega vaccination site “will help accelerate the implementation of our national vaccination program, as it will enable us to vaccinate around 10,000 individuals daily.”
Of course the NPF isn’t having none of that and even pointed out that it raises “legal and environmental concerns“. The camp also pointed out that it would be counterproductive because they will be building the vaccination site near a “COVID-19 quarantine facility”.
It emphasized that the property is “not a vacant lot but has a thriving urban forest that hosts a variety of urban wildlife and is the last remaining grassland in the reclaimed area of Parañaque.”
“The abrupt cutting of close to 500 trees and other site works on the NPF property will kill the existing ecosystem. Once lost, it could take decades to recover this ecosystem. A mega vaccination facility that will destroy this ecosystem would be a disaster and a disservice to the residents of Metro Manila who need more green and open spaces,” the NPF said.
Yesterday, Galvez stated that the Duterte administration isn’t discounting the NPF’s point “but it must surely know the urgency of the situation our nation is confronting.” He was also quoted saying it would be “inappropriate for the NPF to equate the fate of 500 ipil-ipil trees with the lives of hundreds of thousands if not millions of Filipinos.

And now for what people on Twitter and Facebook are saying about this proposal to destroy Nayong Pilipino to build a Mega Vaccination Site…
It's such a dangerous, slippery slope to justify cutting trees with crude arguments like this. There is a way to grow and develop our society without this utter contempt for the environment – sorry, the language drips with it.https://t.co/UhKRAx4iN5

This post has a good point…
Having multiple, tiny vaccination distribution points is the best way to deploy vaccines. It limits people moving around instead of, “Ok! Let’s go to Nayong Pilipino!”
If each barangay has a distribution point then people don’t need to travel. They just need to *walk*

Also not to mention that they are building the vax site near a quarantine facility.
LETS 🗣 JUST 🗣 USE 🗣 THE 🗣 AVAILABLE 🗣 FACILITIES.
NO NEED TO BUILD A NEW ONE IN NAYONG PILIPINO. Spend our money wisely 👏🏽 👏🏽

This is just a distraction! What's with Nayong Pilipino? Unless your from Pasay/Paranaque may kalayuan eto, di pa accessible for most. Parang lumalabas walang alternative. Look at and use existing structures that have access to transpo, toilet, well ventilated, ample parking.

Evan the Palace isn’t too pleased with the NPF’s stance on the matter.

"Green and open spaces will be useless if there will be no one to visit them" – Czar Galvez.
Hon. Galvez, some green and open spaces were not meant to visit. Instead, they were meant to mitigate climate change.
To Nayong Pilipino, please do not sign the paper.

Razon is even called out on Twitter..
“Save the ipil-ipil, and never mind the people who are dying!” an exasperated Razon said sarcastically.
