Naomi will feature the character Naomi McDuffie, a new superhero created by Brian Michael Bendis for a solo book as well as a time with the Young Justice crew. In recent times, she is also set to appear in the current volume of Justice League where her creator, Bendis, will be writing the stories together with artist David Marquez. She is described in the show’s logline as:
effortlessly cool and confident” high school student, who is popular with all the kids in her military town and unafraid to embrace “her AP-student, comic book-loving nerdiness.” When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, leading to the discovery of Naomi’s powers within, she pursues her hidden destiny — and what she discovers “will challenge everything we believe about our heroes
The show will also feature series regulars like Alexander Wraith (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) will play Dee, the owner of a local tattoo parlor who hints that he knows more than he is willing to tell about the aforementioned supernatural event; Cranston Johnson (Hap and Leonard) will play Zumbado, the mysterious owner of a local used car lot; and newcomer Camila Moreno will appear as Lourdes, a young woman who works in a vintage collectibles shop and has an unrequited crush on Naomi.
DuVernay serves as the show’s writer and executive producer together with Jill Blankenship (Arrow).
