Skater Michael Martinez starts asking for funds for Winter Olympics 2022 due to lack of support

Remember that time figure skater Michael Christian Martinez was the talk of the town for his performance in the Olympics? Well guess what, the lack of government support for this athlete has left him no choice but to self-fund.

The skater’s Facebook page recently went up with a post featuring his GCash account and asking for support and funds as he competes for the Winter Olympics 2022.

Many netizens are already saying that if he doesn’t get support soon, he may end up like chess grandmaster Wesley So who recently became a US citizen so he would be able to compete professionally.

There were even comments saying how much biased the government is when it comes to supporting other sports. Basketball always gets the lion’s share of support and budget while other sports that show promise gets whatever’s left and those are the ones with gold medalists.

Meanwhile Martinez continues to show his skills and is hoping to nab olympic gold in 2022.
