Pacific Rim returns with Pacific Rim: The Black animated series on Netflix
We get another interesting addition to the Pacific Rim franchise with the announcement of a new animated series from Netflix called Pacific Rim: The Black.
Pacific Rim: The Black trailer
Pacific Rim: The Black synopsis
There was a time when Kaiju rose from the Pacific Rim only to encounter gigantic robots, Jaegers, built to fight them back. That time has passed. Now, Australia has been overrun by Kaiju, forcing the evacuation of an entire continent. Left behind, teenage siblings Taylor and Hayley embark on a desperate search for their missing parents, teaching themselves to pilot a battered, long-abandoned Jaeger to help in their quest and give them even the slightest hope of surviving.
Premieres March 4 only on Netflix.
It looks like this is set in between the original Pacific Rim movie and Pacific Rim Uprising with the siblings finding an abandoned Jaeger facility and them being able to pilot the mech thanks to them being drift compatible just like Charlie Hunnam’s Raleigh in the original film directed by Guillermo del Torro.
You also have to appreciate the new designs they did for the menacing Kaijus we’ve seen in this trailer alone. We even have smaller “kaijus” that are capable of entering the Jaeger facility. And I’m also sensing an Evangelion vibe here with the mysterious kid being a sort of cross between a Kaiju and a Jaeger and even becoming the project’s main antagonist.
