Catriona Gray Criticized for being abroad and not helping in Typhoon Relief
Storm Ulysses aka #UlyssesPH has caused significant damage today causing people to refer to it as “Ondoy Part 2” and relief operations has begun for the displaced and people whose homes have been flooded by this new storm as well as the previous one, #RollyPH. But get this, there are people online who found the time to criticize Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray!
Apparently, people were irked with her going to Colombia to judge the country’s Miss Universe pageant. One such user commented on her Instagram post dated November 11 where he questioned why she wasn’t helping out in the relief operation.
“Cat, why are you in Colombia instead of helping your own province deal with the typhoon? I have always been [a] fan but especially with traveling during a pandemic? What example does taking this job send to everyone?” one @kopkhunkha, which appears to be an anonymous account, asked Gray.
She then responded:
[This] invitation was extended months ago and even though I’m away, I’ve been doing my part in working with @philredcross since the day of the typhoon to provide aid and relief to the affected areas. Thanks for your concern.
The Instagram user then responded by explaining that the question was made to “hold even beauty queens accountable”. The user also added that “others can see this as their go ahead to travel” despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
But Gray wasn’t just sitting down while here in the country. She was an official ambassador to the Philippine Red Cross. She was also advocating for swab testing as well as donating to typhoon relief efforts and blood donations as well.
Check out some of the comments from Twitter defending Catriona:
Catriona Gray is a public figure but not a government official. I wish you all had the same energy asking our gov’t officials where they are now because they should be holding meetings how to address the situation and how to further help the Filipinos.https://t.co/SaQxPIJ57L

Is Catriona Gray a public official? Bakit ang taas ng expectation sa kanya to fulfill a duty she’s not supposed to do pero ang lenient at may free pass lagi ‘pag sa presidente? Make it make sense ugh https://t.co/9Bv7Uv29q6
