Ria Atayde to campaign for children’s rights with Save the Children Philippines

Save the Children Philippines welcomes actress Ria Atayde as its latest ambassador who will help promote children’s rights on education and health, amid the continuing challenges of COVID-19.

At the onset of the pandemic, Atayde started raising funds to distribute personal protective equipment (PPEs) and food packs to frontliners, conducted feeding programs for children in poor families, and provided medical assistance to the sick.

Atty. Alberto Muyot, Chief Executive Officer of Save the Children Philippines said Atayde is joining Miss World Philippines 2018 Katarina Rodriguez and child actress Xia Vigor in representing the child-rights organization and its advocacy works for children.

“We warmly welcome Ria Atayde as our new ambassador for Save the Children Philippines. She has shown sincerity, stayed low-profile, and shares our values and mission in helping the most deprived and marginalized children,” he said.

Atayde is considered a family member of the child-rights group. In 2016, she volunteered with Save the Children in raising funds for children dying of hunger and malnutrition in Metro Manila and Southern Mindanao.

Last week, she joined fellow celebrities in the life-changing Save With Stories, a fundraising initiative adapted from Save the Children United Kingdom and Save the Children US, that aim to raise funds for Save the Children Philippines’ Project ARAL (Access to Resources for Alternative Learning) to help children from low income families and those with disabilities by providing access to alternative learning modalities.

Ria is a Filipina actress and the daughter of veteran actress Sylvia Sanchez and businessman Art Atayde. She is a Communication Arts graduate from De La Salle University and assumed leadership in the University Student Government for two terms as batch president and as executive secretary. During her term, Ria led the university’s donation drives especially during calamities.

“It is important for celebrities and ambassadors to use their voice and platforms for a greater cause. This role of helping our country’s children gives more meaning to my life,” said Atayde.
