DC Comics Leaves Diamond Comics Distributors

Big news on the comics front today as its been announced that DC Comics has left their long-time distributor Diamond Comics Distributors!

DC Comics has found a new distributor to help send their comics from the press to stores. They had previously worked with Diamond Comic Distributors for almost 25 years together with other brands like Dark Horse Comics, Viz Media, Dark Horse Comics and Marvel Comics.

The “Distinguished Competition” will be working with UCS Comic Distributors as well as Lunar Distribution to deliver their comics. For the bigger trade paperbacks and collected editions of their titles, DC would tap their new partnership with Penguin Random House.

In a statement released first via The Hollywood Reporter, DC Comics had this to say:

We recognize that, to many of you, this may seem like a momentous decision,” DC representatives said in an email sent to retailers on Friday. However, we can assure you that this change in DC’s distribution plans has not been made lightly and follows a long period of thought and consideration. The change of direction is in line with DC’s overall strategic vision intended to improve the health of, and strengthen, the Direct Market as well as grow the number of fans who read comics worldwide.

Reports suggest that the remaining orders that Diamond took as distributors from stores all the way to June 1 will be fulfilled. The other solicited orders for DC titles will not be taken anymore. DC also revealed that they will shift the Final Order Cut-Off from June 8 to June 15 to ensure that customers don’t miss an issue.
