The documentary was directed by Lauren Greenfield and focuses on the political career of Imelda Marcos including their bid to get back into political power decades after the events of the EDSA People Power brought them down. This documentary also follows Imelda as she tries to help her son Bongbong Marcos become a president of the Philippines. The film was first screened at the 76th Venice Film Festival and was subsequently shown in the Philippines on January 2020.

The Kingmaker does have some gold bling that comes along with it including a nomination for best documentary at the London Film Festival and the Stockholm Film Festival. It also got nominated at four different categories at the 2019 Critic’s choice Documentary Awards. And if that does not faze your or hype you up for the 15th it was also given a 97% Certified Fresh rating from Rotten Tomatoes and a 76/100 from Metacritic.
