Luke Skywalker Getting a new yellow lightsaber in comics after Empire Strikes Back

No, Marvel isn’t rewriting history with this post. Rather they are playing around the in-betweens of the movies. The first volume of Star Wars already folded up and this new volume will be set in between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

This little bit of development around the time after Empire Strikes Back will be written by Charles Soule and artist Jesus Saiz. The next few issues will apparently deal with Luke Skywalker going on a quest to find a new lightsaber, which he lost during his fight with Darth Vader on Bespin.

The cover you see above is R.B. Silva and I’m willing to bet that it would be a stopgap for Luke before his eventual ascension to being a Jedi Knight at the start of Episode VI aka Return of the Jedi. This also neatly ties in to the new mythos that’s been developed at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker where Rey Palpatine ends up with a yellow lightsaber in Tatooine.

Star Wars #6 is due out in May.
