Taika Waititi Goes back for Thor 4, Delays Akira
Thor 4 is officially happening now because director Taika Waititi has signed to direct the film, shelving work on the planned Akira live-action adaptation. Best part? We have Thor 4 happening.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that Waititi is now onboard to do the fourth Thor movie together with MIB: International’s Chris Hemsworth and possibly co-star Tessa Thompson (You can read my review for Men in Black International too while you’re at it).
No official word yet on how Warner bros. would go about developing Akira but before announcing his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Waititi was reportedly already looking for talents to move the project along neatly and meet the March 2021 release date of the Akira movie. WB has also made it clear that they want Waititi in the helm and after working on Thor 4.
Speaking of Thor, this will also make Thor the longest running solo movie franchise under Marvel Studios belt. Iron Man capped at 3 movies:
Iron Man (2008)
Iron Man 2 (2010)
Iron Man 3 (2013)
Captain America doesn’t have the same luck as well, also ending with three movies:
Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
The other Thor movies that has been put out by Marvel in the past includes:
Thor (2011)
Thor: The Dark World (2013)
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
