5 Things to Expect from Stranger Things 3

Netflix is dropping Stranger Things 3 in 2 days and we got the chance to catch the first episode last night. Here are 5 things to expect from the series which is still written and directed by The Duffer Brothers.

1. Deeper Relationships

Most of the kids from Hawkins went through some growing up last season and this summer proves that its still going to be the same thing. Eleven and Mike are enjoying being a couple and the benefits of making out. Even Dustin is in on the action too. Only Will is the odd boy out. Guess he’s going to be the lyncpin for every strange thing that happens to him and his friends. Its a nice, natural progression to see the kids blossoming into teens.

2. Mature themes

Billy’s such bad news for Hawkins and this season dives deeper into the whole idea of being the main negative force in the sleepy, creepy town of Hawkins. As he continues to stay, he also has a profound charm on the milfs and cougars of the town including Mike’s mom who has fallen for the bad boy’s charms. If episode one’s potentially scandalous affair materializes, you’ll definitely see a slightly more mature Stranger Things this season.

Nancy’s character arc will also explore more mature territory including sexist work culture and how she plans on sticking it to the man. Episode 1 gives Nancy a glimmer of hope that she gets her chance to prove her mettle as a journalist.

3. The Russian Upside Down

It looks like the Russians are also doing some exploration into the upside down. This whole plot may bring in more danger for Eleven and her friends and family and at the same time provide the necessary conflict that will drive the series’ action and drama. How much damage have they done with their experiments and what sort of creature have they summoned this time?

4. Hopper

On a personal note, I relate to Hawkins’ chief of police Hopper who has to adjust to his adopted daughter Eleven’s blossoming romance with Mike. Plus there’s still the unresolved romance he clearly wants with Joyce Byer (Winona Ryder). But she’s still not over with Bob who died last season. Stranger Things S3E1 alone gives us scenes of Hopper adjusting to being a dad to a teenage girl. If Season 1 was all about him getting over the death of his child, season 2 was him getting the actual chance to be a father to Eleven, Season 3 sees him growing into the role.

5. Bigger in scale

Stranger Things 3 wants to expand the world these characters live in. Initially we get to see only a few places for the entire series. Season 2 expands further in Eleven’s arc where she looks for her birth mother and even joins her “sister” before returning to Hawkins to assimilate back with friends and her adopted father. This season, its obvious that they want to explore stuff like the Cold War and the dangers of capitalism and even the death of small town businesses because of malls.

So there you go, 5 Things to Expect from Stranger Things 3. The series begins streaming July 4 on Netflix.

The series stars Millie Bobby Brown, Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Dacre Montgomery and more.
