It’s finally happened. Jonathan Hickman has returned to Marvel and will be writing two X-Men titles namely House of X and Powers of X.

As previously reported, Hickman will be writing a project for Marvel which starts this July 2019.

The writer hasn’t been active with the House of Idea since the conclusion of his mega event Secret Wars in 2015.

Marvel has been doing all that they can to make the X-Books exciting and they are kinda doing it with the release of Uncanny X-Men, the subsequent return of Cyclops and the current slow-burn story that Matthew Rosenberg is doing featuring a rag-tag team of past and present X-Men with Cyclops leading the pack.

According to reports, Hickman will be writing both Powers of X and House of X which will be released alternately every month. The story will pick up after whatever happens at the end of the current Age of X-Man story. Pepe Larraz will be doing art for House of X while R.B. Silva will be doing art for Powers of X. From what I gathered, Powers of X isn’t an “X” per se but rather a jab at the Weapon X (10) project.

Marvel’s EIC, C.B. Cebulski had this to say about Hickman’s return to Marvel.

We are excited to have Jon back with the Marvel family, and we could not have asked for a better creative team to help usher the X-Men into a whole new era. While we can’t reveal too much about the story just yet, these new stories will redefine the X-Men and their place in the Marvel Universe. This is a historic moment both new and passionate fans won’t want to miss.

The announcement highlights pivotal X-Men stories from the past, including Giant-Size X-Men, Jim Lee and Chris Claremont’s X-Men #1 from 1991, the alternate-reality event Age of Apocalypse and Grant Morrison’s New X-MenHouse of X and Powers of X are meant to be the next big event in the X-Men franchise, setting up Marvel’s Mutants for exciting new stories down the road.

House of X #1 and Powers of X #1 will go on sale in July from Marvel Comics.
