Huawei Y9 2018 First Impression
Huawei has a winner with the release of the Huawei Y9 2019 which is now available in the market. Here’s my first impressions for the Huawei Y9 2018 edition which is now available in stores nationwide.
Huawei Y9 (2019) key specifications:
- 6.5-inch FullView FHD+ 3D curved design display @ 1080 x 2340 pixels
- HiSilicon Kirin 710 2.2GHz Octa-core processor
- 4 or 6 GB RAM
- 64 or 128GB internal storage, expandable via microSD
- 16MP + 2MP dual rear cameras
- 13MP + 2MP dual front cameras
- EMUI 8.2 (Android 8.1 Oreo)
- 4,000mAh battery
The Y9 2019’s unibody design is sleek, the design for the camera is compact and everything fits perfectly into the palm of your hand. The polycarbonate back is sexy and it’d be a miss if you put a protector on this beauty. Over all, the design looks great. It’s also worth nothing that the smartphone weights just right. There’s a solid, almost-brick like feel to the phone. But at the same time, it’s not heavy.
The phone’s front side features a *sigh* notch design. It’s conveniently designed together with the 13 megapixel front camera with 2 megapixel camera. Speaker and other parts of the phone are tucked neatly on the 6.5 inch fullview FHD with slim bezels around it.
I’ve got nothing on the display. For me it had enough light and color. The phone is smartly designed for viewing whether its for gaming or for binge-watching. The display features 19.5:9 IPS display with 2340 x 1080 resolution.
I tried to use the phone under direct sunlight and I am impressed with the way the display works. Set the brightness to anywhere between 50% to 70% and you’re good to go on using the smartphone.
The Y9 comes with swinging with a great camera for both front and back. Just to refresh, the front camera is 13MP + 2MP for the bokeh effect. The rear camera on the other hand features 16MP + 2MP dual rear cameras. Both are easy to operate even if you’re not familiar with how a Huawei smartphone works.
Here are some of the shots I took with this smartphone’s rear camera.
Other modes to choose from can be seen above.
Also I’d like to add that the Huawei Y9 (2019) is an awesome phone to bring if you’re shooting in natural light and on a wider-screen…
… Not saying that it needs a wide-angle mode, but as it its, it really gives solid photos shot on landscape.
Selfies are also exciting and you get a lot of options to choose from for your output…
Another thing that’s worth writing about in this Huawei Y9 2019, its the video output. You can go and shoot videos with the Y9 2019 for up to 1080p / 60 fps. Its decent enough for your out of towns or generic shoots with the video. Depending on the lighting, you could even get some cool videos you can post on social media.
Benchmark / Battery
Below are test results for the CPU benchmark done with Geekbench 4
The Huawei Y9 2019 is one of the best smartphones for this year. Why? Its got heft in terms of weight, has a pretty big display that’s satisfying for both gaming and viewing. The camera is exceptional and the video output is also great. The phone is a bit larger than normal but still fits snugly into your pocket. And the price point of Php 12,990 is one of the best things about it. Good mid-ranger that doesn’t even feel and operate like a midranger.
