Converge ICT Withdraws Bid for 3rd Telco

Some surprising news today. Converge ICT, one of the fastest Internet providers in the Philippines, has officially withdrawn from the race to become the third Telco in the country.

Today marks the deadline for submission for necessary documents to join the bidding to become the much-vaunted third Telco player in the Philippines.

So far only three companies have submitted their documents. These companies are:

  • PT&T (Philippine Telegraph and Telephone Corp.)
  • LCS-TierOne consortium of Chavit Singson
  • Mislatel consortium (Udenna Corp. and China Telecom)

Among the three there are rumors swirling around that one of the three have already gotten the upper hand through underhanded tactics. Allegedly anyway.

Really sad that Converge backed down. Being the third Telco could push the Internet speeds on a higher level for everybody to enjoy but alas.
