“The Nun” Possesses PH Box-Office with P129.9-M in 4 Days
MANILA, Sept. 10 – “The Nun,” the terrifying new chapter in New Line Cinema’s and James Wan’s Conjuring universe, scared up a four-day opening weekend gross of P129.9-M at the Philippine box office in only 296 screens nationwide. The announcement was made today by Francis Soliven, General Manager of Warner Bros. Philippines which distributed the film.
Daring audiences to brave an encounter with the demonic nun Valak, the new supernatural thriller exorcised the record for All-Time Biggest Opening Weekend for a Horror Film Industry-Wide (surpassing Feng Shui), as well as the Year’s Biggest Opening Weekend for a Warner Bros. Title (outgrossing “Crazy Rich Asians”) and Biggest Opening Weekend for The Conjuring Universe (beating “The Conjuring 2”).
In making the announcement, Soliven stated, “We’re thrilled that audiences continue to enjoy being terrified by the Conjuring universe. We congratulate James Wan, the architect of this amazing franchise; director Corin Hardy; producer Peter Safran; screenwriter Gary Dauberman; and the talented cast and crew, all of whom have delivered the exhilarating scares that fans across the Philippines have been waiting for. These terrific results and enthusiastic word-of-mouth demonstrate that the appetite is only growing.”
Now playing in Philippine cinemas, “The Nun” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
About “The Nun”
Filmmaker James Wan, director of the record-setting horror hits “The Conjuring” and “The Conjuring 2,” explores another dark corner of that universe with “The Nun.” Directed by Corin Hardy, the new fright-fest is produced by Wan and by Peter Safran, who has produced all the films in “The Conjuring” franchise.
When a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in “The Conjuring 2,” as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.
“The Nun” stars Oscar-nominated Demian Bichir, as well as Taissa Farmiga, and Jonas Bloquet. The cast also includes Charlotte Hope, Ingrid Bisu, and Bonnie Aarons, reprising her Conjuring 2 role as the title character.
Corin Hardy directs “The Nun” from a screenplay by Gary Dauberman, story by James Wan & Gary Dauberman. Richard Brener, Walter Hamada, Dave Neustadter, Gary Dauberman, Michael Clear and Todd Williams are the executive producers.
