Kelly Thompson Brings Back the West Coast Avengers for Marvel’s Fresh Start
Marvel’s Fresh Start gives a classic Avengers spinoff an actual Avengers team a fresh start. We’re talking about the return of the West Coast Avengers.
Writer Kelly Thompson whose previous work includes HAWKEYE, ROGUE AND GAMBIT and CAPTAIN PHASMA will be writing a book about the classic Avengers team with a new cast of characters and ofcourse, Hawkeyes. She will be joined by a fellow Avengers creative alum, Stefano Casselli.
According to Thompson:
They all need and want something from being on that team together. Kate needs to help save LA, and she needs help to do that because villains have taken notice that there are no Super Heroes out there. I think there’s part of her that misses [being on a team] too. She’s been doing her own thing, on her own, and that’s cool. But she was the one, who, with no powers, was like ‘I’m leading the Young Avengers, I’m the boss.
The supergroup will be composed of two Hawkeyes as mentioned earlier, Clint Barton (the original Hawkeye) and mentor to the current Hawkeye, Kate Bishop. Bishop’s boyfriend Johnny is also a part of the team although he’s got no real powers or skills to add. Gwenpool is also in the mix as well as the trouble-making mutant Quintin Quire. Lastly, the team’s real powerhouse is none other than America Chavez aka MAC.
Thompson states:
I think America is the biggest question mark, and I think that’s something we’re excited to explore: Why does she come back to LA? Why does she come back to be with Kate? Does she miss [the group dynamic] too? Because America, she likes to play things a little close to the vest.
Oh and did we mention that the team also agreed to be part of a reality show in the West Coast to help fund them as well as get some nice lodging? Yeah, sounds interesting.
West Coast Avengers is slated for release August 22.
