Poison Ivy Outsmarts Batman – Batman # 41

While Poison Ivy is one of the brainier Batman rogues, she’s never really managed to gain an upper hand on the Dark Knight ever since her first appearance in Gotham. This week’s Batman # 41 by Tom King and Mikel Janin changes that with part one of “Everybody Loves Ivy”.

In this week’s story, we open up with Bruce Wayne waking up suddenly because he knows something’s wrong. That’s also after dreaming of Poison Ivy in the opening segment of the Batman # 41. As he stumbles towards the Bat Cave, Alfred makes an appearance and Bruce gives him a one-inch punch.

In his confused state, Bruce Wayne seems to know what happened to him and he slowly ventures deeper into the Batcave. As he reaches his table, Catwoman appears out of nowhere and attacks him. But he manages to inject an antidote for the poison that Ivy just spread across the world.

The grand exposition happens when Batman and Catwoman wake up in their costumes with Alfred Pennyworth looking from the bed’s edge.

Poison Ivy’s so confident that she’s beaten Batman that she pretty much uses Barry Allen as a human shield from Batman’s solid punch. And she also has the balls to tell Bruce Wayne that she’s got more Flashes she can send over to use as a human shield, referring to the two Wally Wests running around in the DCU.

Then she proceeds to let Batman know just how much she’s ahead in this game with Batman…

And she wasn’t lying about that too as we get a glimpse of her control which goes beyond normal people as she’s even managed to gain control of people like Superman and Wonder Woman. Hell she even managed to get Donald Trump in the process.

She also lays it thick on Batman that there’s no way to reverse what she’s done. But maybe, if you kill her, people can be free from her influence.

Oh Tom King you sly devil. You keep putting this couple into seriously wicked situations. But you know what they say, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and Batman # 41 probably wants to hammer that idea down for Batman and Catwoman.
